In March 1879, the Philological Society made a deal with Oxford University Press, which agreed to publish the O.E.D. under the snappy title: 'A New English Dictionary On Historical Principals Formed Mainly On The Materials Collected By The Philological Society And With The Assistance Of Many Scholars And Men Of Science'.
