The fourth day of the Wimbledon Championships, 2006 © AELTC/courtesy Wimbledon Museum

Anyone for tennis? The All-England Lawn Tennis Club in London SW19 is where the world's brightest and best players gather every June and July – sometimes in summery weather, sometimes not. It is the only one of the four main Grand Slam tennis tournaments still played on grass, and has been the backdrop for some of the titanic battles in tennis history.

Who remembers the men's singles champion Spencer Gore? You ought to, as he was the very first Wimbledon champion ever, back in 1877. Join us as we queue for tickets, enjoy a portion of strawberries and cream, and add our voices (while we still can) to the familiar, encouraging cry of "Come on, Tim!"
